#5: knit a scarf with a different pattern
this is actually my first knitted scarf.
i have crocheted a few scarves before, but i finally learned how to knit one.
this scarf is for me.
it's a keeper.

#5 on the list: make a beanie with a different pattern/stitch
my latest beanie
i didn't knit this with the round knitting needles, instead i did it with two regular needles and stitched them together. (did that make any sense?)
this one was made for little brother
and this is one of my first ones that i am liking better than the previous gray one
**now i just need to move where it is COLD and not so dang HOT**

crossing this one off the list.
i was never able to ride a train or take a photography class,
or use my newport beach b&b gift certificate,
but i did learn 2 new recipes, read way more than 2 new books,
relaxed a whole lot more and let the boys be boys, and accomplished a bunch
of other cool things. :)
now on to a new year,
and a new list.
because i love lists.

after hours and hours of measuring, cutting, sewing, ripping out seam after seam, then sewing some more, and handstitching, my first quilt is finished.
all my patience and hardwork paid off b/c i am so happy
with my final product.
i still can not believe i sewed this.
amazing.
*excuse the wrinkles- i was too excited to steam the blanket after i finished!*

i've been swimming in a sea of goodness
these past few days.
nothing better than having a vision for something,
and seeing it come to fruition.
i am ridiculously happy and giddy over this.
here is a baby blanket for my dear friend's baby. it measures 30x40 inches. one side is the very cute patterned fabric and the other side is a super soft dotted minky fabric. (i want a blanket made out of this for myself!)
this also comes with a matching pillow.
and here is a matching skirt made for the big sister b/c every little girl loves a cute skirt, right?
and last, but not least another blanket for another dear friend who just had a baby boy. (baby boom going on or what?!)
a cute little pillow will go with this as well.
see, lots of goodness, right? :)

i've been busy.
i've been busy casting on, knitting,
unraveling and unraveling some more,
counting stitches, and losing my patience,
but not giving up.
i've been busy knitting.
something very soothing and meditative
about this.
something very cool about creating something
out of pretty much nothing except,
for a ball of yarn.
somehow all the knots, hooks, and patterns make sense.
kind of like life, you know.
somehow all the craziness, loops, and obstacles
you go thru all make sense in the end.
in the beginning, there is always uncertainty and doubt.
then when you get a hang of things, a curve ball is thrown at you,
and you have to persevere and tell yourself that everything will come
together, and believe that it will all work out, one way or another.
there is a reason why i had to go thru this loop, or this way.
and it's only until you make it to the end,
when you can see your final product,
where you get that ahhh ha moment and
and it all makes sense.
and in the end, there is no better satisfaction than to
see all your hard work paid off,
to see your final creation.
*i would like to thank my model for staying still and keeping the beanie on, unlike my other two models..not mentioning any names here*

we can cross number one off the list now.
we have been swimming in a sea of mini pillows here.

it isn't valentine's day without these things
(all supplies purchased from a 99 cents store..and voila! very cute valentines for family and friends!)

she has a tendency to procrastinate.
for example, she has had a frame from ikea that she has wanted to jazz up for almost a year now.
yes, this lone frame has been sitting next to the other bigger lone frame on her shelf, that is above her tv for a very looong time.
so every day as she is checking her dvr for what was on oprah earlier, she sees her frames.
the naked frames.
the frames that are just begging to be adorned with something, anything.
so the other night, she got a burst of creative energy and put this together.

now she has something to admire while she is watching oprah.

the posse and i were feeling a little crafty the other day, so we made thank you cards.
plain and simple thank you cards.
we just used extra cardstock we had laying around, some fingerpaint, and we were good to go.
i had big brother use the white paint and little brother the yellow paint.
original plan for these cards were thank you and happy new year cards for the family, but since i had extras, i figured they could be used for other ocassions as well..birthday cards, thinking of you cards, hi how are you cards..you get the drift.
pretty nifty, huh?

today big brother and i worked on our 3 r's project, inspired by elise.
our final product is not as cool and chic as hers, but i don't think it looks bad at all considering an almost three year old helped me. :)
there was lots of glue used- big brother couldn't help himself..i think he's going to be one of those kids who puts glue on their palms and waits for it to dry so he can peel it off. ( speaking from lots of experience, of course)
we used the cute shoe box his oscar the grouch shoes came in..high five to mama for saving it! ;)

i am a huge fan of ali edwards and a daily reader of her blog.
she is doing this daily december album that basically documents the first 25 days of your life in december.
i am so excited about doing this.
what i love about this is that i pretty much have my pages done, all i need to do is add the pics and my journaling.
i haven't felt so excited about working on something like this in a looong time.
talk about living in the moment and being present.

these were a hit at little brother's birthday party.
if i can make these, anyone can.
i googled the recipe and voila.
i purchased the cookie sticks and clear baggies from Michaels.
i bought the cute tin from target and inserted a styrofoam block in the tin, so the cookies would stay put.
one big tub of cookie dough from costco made about 50 cookies. i lost count as big brother and i were test tasting them to make sure they were good. :)

i like cards. i like to make cards when i have the time. and when i am really in the zone, i like to make many, many cards.
to celebrate world card making day i made a bunch of cards to share with you all.
(actually i was totally in the card making zone saturday night and afterwards realized it was card making day that day...what a coincidence!)
the beauty in all these cards i made, is that they are mostly made out of scraps i had laying around. nice, huh?
